odometer fixed, temp gauge screwy? 200 1992

Last Sunday I made the foolish mistake of resetting the trip meter after filling up at the gas station, a few miles later I noticed that the car still read 000.0 miles. I immediately went home and ordered a new gear, It came yesterday (Wednesday) and I put it in. First time I put it in, It worked for 0.5 miles. Second time, it didn't work at all. Third time, it worked like a charm! BUT, I noticed the car was running very cold. The needle barely approached the lower white line at the cold spot, but never higher. I pulled the cluster again and noticed the 1/2 moon style hook-up was not on that great. Pushed it on further, and the needle seemed to make its way toward the middle. So, I was happy and went to sleep. Woke up this morning, started it up and headed towards school, and noticed that it was exhibiting the same very cold behavior. What the hell is going on? Any insight?
