Help! How to keep screw clips on blower motor in place? 200 1989

Hi,
I'm doing a hole-saw blower motor replacement on my 240. When removing the old blower motor, the clips that the screws thread through on the back came loose. How do I hold those in place for the re-install? They have sharp legs that I think maybe should hold them in place but haven't had any luck with that yet. Which way should the pointy things point- to or away from the screw head?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Lyle
