broken timing belt 1992 960 900 1992

I got the tear-down to the point where the cams are removed...2 questions; is there a way to tell, without taking the rest of the head off, to determine if any valves are bent?...It looks to me that all the lifters are even; and when I turn the crank by hand I don't feel any resistance or hear any noises from inside the spark chambers......Second question...Where is the timing mark on the crank?.....I can see the #1 piston at TDC; but when I look at the crank I cannot find any mark on the crank gear?....Any help would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks
