Well I'm back...possible project car questions. 200

About a year ago I was looking for my first car, either a volvo or a honda. My family has owned hondas for years and loved them...and I ended up getting a honda so I kinda fell out of the volvo world, but now I'm looking for a good project car. Something easy to work on, kinda different, mainly to learn on. Which brings me back. I love my honda...most of the time, but it's a 90 civic auto...In other words, it's totally and completely guttless. And it's got a temper like you wouldnt believe. Such a picky car. Not something I want to mess with...I'm just going to keep it as a daily driver and leave it at that.
Now to the questions...

First off, do you think this would be a good project car? As far as being fairly straight forward and such.
Second...How hard is it to turbo and non-turbo volvo?
Since I don't NEED a car now, I can afford to look around a little more...So I'm gonna be picky. I really like the 240s...A basic car with a ton of possiblities. And I'm only going to be looking at stick shifts. II'm not really great at a stick shift, but I have someone to help me. Which brings me to my next question...How much abuse can these transmissions take? I'm sure I'll think of more questions...

Thanks!
