About to start doing some repairs / diagnoses... help needed. 200 1992

Ok, in advance, I'd like to go ahead and thank everyone who has offered advice in the past. You guys have saved me a ton of heartaches and headaches on my old 240. Plus, I've kept a lot of money in my pocket instead of being duped by some mechanic that might have taken me for a ride.

So, I'm about to start looking at some minor issues that have been surfacing on my '92 240. Here's what we're looking at so far.

1. Speedometer and Odometer have quit working. Removed the cluster to check on some burnt out bulbs and put it back in to find that neither worked anymore. Pulled it back out and checked it visually. Burnt spot on one of the transistors on the board connected to the Speedo. I'm thinking I mixed up a couple of wires when I plugged it back in and blew that transistor. So, worth paying the $150 to have the thing rebuilt (probably just replaced with a previously rebuilt speedo), or should I bother to remove the transistor, resolder a new one, reset the odometer to the current mileage, and replace the odometer gear myself?

2. A/C isn't working. Worked when I bought it and just never really used it. Now, air doesn't get cold. I'm assuming it's a lack of coolant, which raises the issue of just converting to R134A and refilling. First though, I'd like to check the relay to see if it's just bad and causing this whole problem. I know the location but, what resistance should I read on that relay when testing it with a multimeter? (BTW, fuse is intact and ok.) Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

3. Temperature gauge is pretty intermittent. Rarely ever reaches normal operating temp. Usually remains inactive during driving. (Doesn't respond at all). I'm assuming this is a temp sensor problem. Any other ideas appreciated of course.

4. Engine makes consistent clicking noise when accelerating. When I let off the gas it goes away. Mechanic (non volvo) says it's probably noisy lifters. Read somewhere that this is usually caused by a bad exhaust manifold gasket.

So, if anyone has any ideas or advice before I dive into all this stuff, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
