Adapting 240 glovebox door into drink holder? Crazy idea? 200

This may be a whacky idea, but has anyone ever modified the very shallow, token drink holder on the inside of the 240 glovebox door so that it is actually capable of holding a drink fairly securely?

If you look at the dimensions of the glovebox door, it appears it would be possible to cut out the circular bottom of the token drink well, creating a hole with enough depth to create a real drink holder. Perhaps some generic aftermarket drink holder insert could be glued into the resulting hole?

The drink holder insert could even stick up above the surface of the inside of the door, so that the effective depth of the drink holder would be greater than just the depth of the hole created.

The idea would be that you'd open the glovebox door, let it hang open, and there's be a reasonably secure drink holder available right there.

Is this crazy, or might this actually work?

Any voices of experience out there?
