740 rebuilding project - Oxygen sensor pricing 700

Hey Mathew,

You do not need the fancy one that IPD sells. The universal sensor will serve you just fine. Just make sure its made by Bosch. The other aftermarket brands tend to be less durable. Another option is to use a Bosch sensor for a '86 Ford Taurus w/ the V6. Usually its even cheaper than the universal sensor. Not sure if thats the case in your neck of the woods, but its worth a look. The only thing thats important to note is not to solder to the wires on the oxygen sensor. The reason for this is that reference air is drawn in through the insulaton on the sensors' wiring. Solder and its flux can clog this. Good crimp connectors and shrink tubing will work fine. Or, if you use the Ford Taurus sensor, you can buy the Ford connector and solder it to the wiring in the car. The sensor would then plug in unmodified.

If you are new to online parts world for Volvo, here are some good places:

www.fcpgroton.com
www.eeuroparts.com
www.tascavolvoparts.com OEM parts at employee prices.
www.germanautoparts.com
www.rockauto.com

These places have many of the aftermarket parts that IPD carries and lots of mechanical parts that they don't. Tasca has OE Volvo parts at really good prices. The others are good to shop around, since some places have better prices on certain things than others. Sorry all these places are in the states, but these are the places I am familiar with.

Regards, Jon 'Uncle Olaf'
