What to do about stubborn hex bolts? 900 1995

This week, while trying to winterize my 95 960, I tried to replace the thermostat. A simple enough job, or so I thought.
The hex bolts in the upper thermostat housing won't budge. I think I even stripped one out a little. This is a nightmare! Is there any way to get these crappy, substandard OE aluminum bolts out of their holes, change the thermostat and get "normal" bolts instead? Or am I stuck taking it to a garage for a simple procedure such as this?
Please help!
