2-4-1 EGR Check Engine Code 900 1994

I am getting a 2-4-1 EGR signal on my 1994 940 non-turbo. After I clear the code, it will come back in a few days of routine driving. What is the most likely source of the signal which is leading to this error code? Would a more detailed scanning of the diagnostic information be advised to home in on the problem? If so, I can take the car by AutoZone and get a readout. Fortunately, I have another 11 months to go on my inspection so am not in an urgent need to fix whatever is causing the error code. I haven't noticed any driveability problems.
