couple things. I've seen the smiths pod tachs behave very weird when hot. they often calm down when they cool off. or fail to count the revs properly forever...
Mine has that glazed look, but still works... sorta. The ignition is wired through the tach condenser-tach-coil. you can bypass it, but that won't help you much.
