'72 145 fuel & temp gauge issue, idle question, and mpg comment 140-160 1972

When starting off, neither work at all. Needles are all the way to the left. Once it's warmer, either in the car or outside, they tend to work. Well, kinda. The fuel gauge reads about a half tank more fuel than I actually have. When it's working, and the tank is full, the needle is all the way to the right.

I also suspect that the temp gauge reads warmer than actual... Aren't both gauges feeding off the same voltage stabilizer? I have a wiring diagram from a '74, and it looks like they are, if that has stayed the same from '72. Could the stabilizer be causing both issues? Non-function & inaccurate readings?

Also, what system is supposed to bring the idle up when the car is cold? It's a djet car. There's no aux air valve that I can see(referenced in a djet article I found). It looked like it's supposed to be on top of the intake manifold. There's no high idle when I first start up in the morning, and I figured that would be nice.

Lastly - I've been really disappointed by the mpg so far. I know it's an AW35, not notorious for such things as great mileage. But 14mpg is the best I've been able to manage. Other than what's described here, current issues are a severely cracked exhaust manifold, an off idle/part throttle stumble, bad master cylinder, and a now bypassed leaking heater control valve. Oh, and the fuel pump noise. It's atrocious. It's high pitched in the car, until I start to turn on electrical accessories. With each one, it gets a little lower. When the turn signal is on, it alternates as the signal clicks. It's kind of funny.

This was much longer than I expected... Ooops. Thanks for making it this far.
