Sw-Em Notes Question 1800 1972

No point in everyone re-inventing the wheel when a pointer to some info can help.
Lot of good info over at Sw-Em, I just have to get by those circa 1992 "Blink" tags... -ouch-

I have a question about the Tach notes. My smith's pod tach is 100% unreliable and beyond the scope of adjustment to sort out. It read about 1000 at 3-4k and 0 at idle. It went all wonky one day while I was messing with my electronic ignition.

What's this bit about putting in resistors? it makes sense but how would that give you a variable signal?
