Flame Trap Breather Hose too short 700 1990

I just bought a new flame trap, breather hose, and flame trap holder. My cuz said it should be a ten minute job. I removed the old, split hose, rammed the new holder into the new hose (not exactly a loose fit), re-attached the lower hose to the oil seperater on the block and then, when it came time to attach the smaller end of the new breather hose to the T intersection, it wouldn't stay on. I tugged and yanked with all my strength, and made sure I was getting the most efficient route under the other hoses...all to no avail, although that did break my holder's nose. I just wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem. The part was purchased from a very reputable volvo parts dealer. I have contacted them for assistance.

Not a big job, I know...but it has turned into a supreme aggravation and I'm not driving my new classic 90 745 until this is fixed.

Anyone else had this happen?
