Alternators 200 1990

Over the past two days I have:
Replaced the front windshield wiper motor
Hood hinge (still a bit currious about how that broke)
Swapped the M47 (which blew the back of the case off) with an M46 (because I just happened to have it)
Wired the M46
swapped the drive shafts
replaced: Motor mounts
Trans mount
brake pads
Front brake lines
Bled the brakes 5 times
Replaced the master cylinder
bled brakes twice more

And what would you know but on the way back home from the folks house (where I did above work) the !&%# alternator failed! (I didn't just love you enough!?!?!)
I think this has become a bi-annual event and I hate it!

Any suggestions to actually correct the problem? (I am beginning to think this is me as every Volvo I have ever owned has had alternator issues, even my friend's cars as soon as I get close to them the alternators fail, well ok it isn't that bad, but close!)

Andrew
