960 (S90) Troubles ???? 1997

My poor 97 960 with 120k started to over accelerate the other day on my way home from work and when I parked it and turned it off the cooling fan continued to run for about 5-10 minutes. The car sat over night and cooled down but when going to start it in the morning the cooling fan came on right away and the car did not want to start strongly as usual...also, the engine temp gauge showed full operating temp as soon as i started the car and the car died once when I gave it gas but after letting it warm up it seemed okay on the drive to work...no over accelerating...but when parking at work the cooling fan again kept running again. Same starting trouble leaving work and over accelerating on the way home. I parked the car and let it cool down and now it will not even start..it will crank over and I can smell gas but the car will not fire and the engine temp gauge shows cold....I'm a backyard mechanic with limited knowledge so can anyone please help? Anyone have similar trouble? couldit be a computer or sensor ???? Thanks in advance...
