alternator replacement 200 1979

I recently replaced my alternator with one from a newer 240. The original was from Bosch; the newer was another brand but they were mostly similar and it installed just fine.

I'm not familiar with alternators from older 240s but I heard that they may have an external voltage regulator as opposed to one mounted directly on the alternator as found on the newer ones. If that's the case, I'm not sure how to adapt to the newer style. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

When I replaced my alternator (a 24-year-old original), I also placed new battery cables since the old ones were corroded, cleaned and dielectric-greased all connections, and installed new bushings for the alternator. And since my battery was killed from an out-of-control voltage regulator, I also replaced it. Hopefully this will keep my car happy for a while.
