Brake Pedal Goes Soft 200 1986

Perhaps I'm just being lazy, but I couldn't find in the archives good answer to this symptom.

'86 244 brakes just fine. Hard pedal cold or hot, except after sitting with the brake pedal depressed. The brakes hold the car back (automatic in drive wants to go) but the pedal falls about half the distance to the floor. I've seen the "Brake Failure" light come on a few times during a particularly long stoplight.

Thoughts? I figure it's time to resolve this one. I'm beginning to feel bad about fixing all the easy stuff on this car while ignoring the so-called "important" stuff...

Regards,
Will
