Lower Bal Joints 1800 1970

Plan to rip out the front end this winter and rebuild everything. Have a steering box rebuild kit, and, I think, the proper upper ball joints. But I'm confused about the lower ball joints. My questions are:

Were Upper Ball Joints the same for ALL 1800 models? That's what I assumed.

I understand the the there are two different versions of the lower ball joint, with different spacing between the mounting holes. True? If so, what was the model year when the new version was introduced and what were those spacings? I see lots of listings for lower ball joints that say they'll fit any 1800.

Also, someone selling ball joints on ebay pooh-poohed ScanTek ball joints as inferior quality. On the web I see those, Beck-Arnley, Quintin-Hazell (British)and some described as "quality, German-made." Is there anything I should stay away from and what's a good source for good lower ball joints.

Thanks for your help
