Two part question;

1. Is there a source for NOS exterior door handles/trunk handles?

2. I am considering getting a couple of my old and pitted sets "rechromed", knowing full well that this will be more expensive than new handles. However in order to do this, I am going to have to remove the spring loaded "collar" that sits in the hole in the door/trunk. This "collar" appears to be held in place by a washer that is fitted over the square shaft and held in place by "notches" that are cut into the shaft with a resulting "Lip" that restricts movement of the washer down the shaft.

Does anyone know the drill for getting the washer off - and then back on again after the handles and "collars" are re-chromed?
