Good Advice. I'll emphasize the importance of the "light mist" approach to applying the paint. The thinner the coats the less likely it will be to have a problem with runs. Also to avoid runs, focus first on applying paint to the inner surfaces and crevices. Coat them first before the easy-to-reach flat surfaces on the face of the wheel.

Practice painting. Try to use fluid motions and experiment with different distances from the nozzle to the piece. To get even coats, when you come to the edge of the piece - stop the flow of paint, then start again going back. Otherwise you put more paint on the spot where you turned back. (That last part is the most helpful thing I learned about spray painting.)

Elementary, but worth noting just in case: Keep your painting activities away from anything you don't want to get coated in a fine mist of overspray (like a car body or especially a windshield). A pleasant breeze will ruin your day.
