97 S90 (960) fuel pump issue??? S90-V90

My Volvo will not start and I think it might be the fuel pump or sending unit...I think this because I remember when the car was running okay I would always hear a slight humming noise coming from the rear of the car before starting up and now I don't hear it. What do you think? Has anyone had a similar problem? Also, if this turns out to be the problem....is it a difficult job to replace the fuel pump? Thanks!
