Continued Fuel/Temp gauge woes 140-160

'72 145. In a post a few weeks back, I stated the gauges didn't work when cold, and were over-reading. Showed too much gas, car hotter than actual, etc. I replaced the voltage stabilizer (twice, actually) and now it still doesn't work when cold, and is under-reading. At a full tank, the fuel gauge reads a bit over the half tank mark. At cruising, the temp gauge reads a little over the C.

So, I assume I'm looking for a ground now? I have to assume that whatever is wrong still has to be something that would effect both gauges at the same time. No reason to check the sensor/float, the likelihood of both of those going at the same time in a way that exhibits similar behaviors should be nil. Right?

Any idea where that ground is? I suppose I'll be laying on the floor of the car finding out this weekend, but hints would be appreciated...
