This one's kind of been on my mind and didn't get a chance to respond earlier. I *just* replaced a failed oil pressure switch on my bro-in-law's 93 945T yesterday. It was pouring out oil and was failing "ON", i.e. showing the light. Scaring me about the health of that sweet late model K engine...
Anyway replaced the sender and that was no big deal, just takes a deep 15/16
socket. The connector was toast- the plastic just crumbled away. The center
brass was good so I was able to reconnect it.
The issue I'm getting to is that the wire could easily be damaged on your car. It runs in a terrible place and could have been inadvertently grounded out when you did the crank seals. It runs right under the front timing cover. Often the harness sheathing is hard as your crank seal was.
The only way to know for sure is to do an oil pressure test, but a new switch is not an expensive part, and should function as new. Spec I think is to maintain 10-psi at idle, which on a very hot day can sometimes result in oil light flicker when you come off the highway. Running 15W40 oil in all but the coldest times of year will prevent the light from coming on in general.
