Volvo 245 valve tick (I've done everything) 200

Okay, shim spacing has been corrected and she still ticks. Most likely the rubber valve "hushers" that are between the top of the valve stem and the shim carriers have long since turned to dust (or rock). The hushers are rubber o-rings that fit around the tip of the valve stems.

To replace them, you need to remove the cam and lift the shim carriers straight up and out... keep track of where they came from and don't mix them up. Now clean out what is left of the old hushers (if anything), install the new hushers followed by the shim carriers. Now reinstall the cam, timing belt and so on.

I would recommend driving the car around the block a few times after this procedure so the hushers seat and then pull the valve cover to check cam to shim clearances. Wait for the engine to cool before checking clearances.

I have gotten valve hushers from the dealer and in head gasket sets in the aftermarket. If you can't find them let me know, I may have a set left.

The other option is to crank the radio up and ignore the noise, it won't hurt anything.
