Tranny whistle noise 200 1983

It is most likely the drive shaft center support bearing. The grease has gotten dry. A ball in the bearing starts sliding instead of rolling and screams till the load/speed changes. I've had two go, out of four cars.

Mine went for a long time before I got around to changing them.

I've suspected if it locks up it will rip/burn the rubber support as it spins and then it will become a big thump, thump! Probably really rare.....a guess? Good luck. Don't be scared DRIVE ON MAN and call CAR TALK. Love to hear the story with those guys on the case!
