Quick hint on finding an electrical short 700 1989

Seems I have read of a way to check for an open ground using a test light and my fuse panel, but I have not found it here.

I was told to leave the ground connector off the battery and then go through my fuses with the test light. If it lights on a particular fuse, that is a problem area to look to.

Is this correct? The '89 760 my daughter is driving keeps killing batteries, and there is something going on - as the button that engages the air will blink on occasion, but not always.
