Letterman talks about his V8 Volvo wagon

Not sure if anyone caught this:

The local tv station (in Australia) screened a recent episode of The Late Show in which Letterman paid tribute to Paul Newman. Amongst many nice things he had to say about his late friend, he talked about Paul Newman's fondness of engine swaps - e.g., Porsche engine in VW Rabbit, and then he talked about how one day Newman called him and asked him if he wanted a Volvo wagon with a V8 as he was getting one himself.

I know that this Letterman/Volvo/V8/Newman story has been known for a while but it was fun to hear Letterman talk about his "Volvo" brick on his show (especially since I have been traveling hard all week for work).

Highlights:

1. Newman asked him if he wanted a "puffer" as well. Letterman replied if he was getting one, he wants one too.

2. When he was driving along the highway one day with his GF, the car caught fire due to problems with the supercharger.

3. He's had the car repaired many times ever since to keep it going.

4. He clearly still has the car, and treasures it as a memory of Newman.

5. People stop him now and then to see the V8 under the hood of the wagon.

Thought I might share this.

FWIW, it's the fairly recent episode with Julia Dreyfuss as main guest.
