Rescuing a non-working Overdrive Solenoid? 120-130

Hey Folks,

I have a OD unit which I finally got around to testing the solenoid on. I found that it does not make the distinct click it is supposed to when current is applied. I have removed the solenoid now and I could see that the little piston/plunger does move, but only a fraction of a milimeter really, and does not make that satisfying "click" like it should.

I sprayed some penetrant on the end and retried with current, but I still didn't get a "freeing-up".

What are the common failure points of these solenoids? Has anybody ever managed to bring one of these back from the near-dead? If so, what did you do?

Thanks, as always.
