240 weird electical problem - starting - accessories 200 1992

I have a 92 240 with 165,000 miles. I was driving and noticed my turn signals were not working. I pulled over to check fuses (all OK) then the engine stopped. I could not get it started. The starter turned the engine over, but it would not start. I checked the fuel pump relay switch which appeared fine but was not "clicking" when turning the ignition off and on.

Almost giving up, I tried starting again and it started right up. However, no accessories work, no turn signals, radio, heater blower. The fuse for the fuel pump is very warm, so is the fuel pump relay switch. The high beam switch on the steering column has not been working, could this be shorting something out? Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.
