780 speedometer 700 1990

i have a 90 780 turbo, i purchased it with a broken speedometer/odometer, the fact that both are not working makes me think it's not the little plastic gear that so often is the culprit, does anyone know if i can the speedo out for another 700 series from the yard, i'm trying to only remove the cluster once


btw. in the 6,000 or so miles i have put on it, the trip odometer has logged 2 miles traveled, don't know if this helps
