bolt on turbo interchange

Greetings, Oh Volvo Cogniscenti. Can you help me out of this little screw-up?
Whilst cruising the local U-Pull I snagged a turbo from a '91 740 wagon (build date 01/91), thinking to rebuild it and replace the plumb wore out unit on my own '91 740 wagon (build date 10/90).
Alas, it seems that I now own two different versions of the Mitsu TD 04, according to the 700 FAQ photos on turbo identification.
On my car is the early version with the vertically mounted, front facing CBV. On my kitchen table is the later version with the angular mounted CBV.
My question, of course, is: Is this a direct bolt on swap, or not? And, are the performance characteristics equal?
Hours of research on this and the TurboVolvo site have produced conflicting info. I'm so confused.... Actually, I'm confused a lot, lately. But maybe you can help me with my car.
