A little puzzle... 200 1989

Although it may not be a direct cause, it could be a contributor. Check the trailing arm bushings, if the are worn out, this can cause the pinion angle to change when you get off the gas. When the pinion angle changes, it changes the alignment between the pinion and the driveshaft, this can cause worn our rear U-joints to howl like a banshee. Of course, the center support bearing should still be checked as I've had them spin in the rubber carrier that makes a high pitch screeching noise. The latter usually involves a bit of a burned rubber smell.
