rattling heat shield on manifold pipe - what is the purpose? 700

fyi-asbestos has been missing from volvos since the mid-80s. the brake pads first, then the gaskets. that's why a valve cover or throttle body gasket is green, to let everyone know it's asbestos free. and there never was a mat of some kind on that manifold shield, at least on the volvos i've owned and worked on. been around 240s since the b21 was new in 76. and so it goes, chuck.
