There is a 2 part repair stick that is actually formulated as a gas tank repair. You wad the 2 strips together, and knead them until the color is uniformly grey. Then press it onto the leaking area. You don't have to drain anything. The putty will cure quickly, and should get you the short distance to the repair shop. Most parts houses carry it.
