940 Engine Whine

I have a 1994 940 with 214,000 on it that has developed a very high engine whine , almost a squeal. I notice when I first start it up and it increases with speed until it goes away at high RPM. It also goes away/diminishes after the engine is has warmed up but seems to be lingering on with time. It seems to be coming fron the valve cover and I feel it is louder when I remove the oil filler cap. I think it might be a cam bearing but I have never had one go bad before so I don't know what it would sound like. It is not a belt ot alternator bearing and it doesn't seem to be coming from the tensioner. Anyone have some thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Jack
