Check your motor and tranny mounts 200 1993

You need to check both motor mounts and the mount on the back side of the transmission.

The engine can shift back and or downwards if any of those are broke. That causes the shifter linkage to bind up and not going into reverse is a symptom. You may need to lift the transmission or engine up with a jack to line things back up.

The motor mounts are easy to check you can see them. The transmission mount you need to be able to get under the car and check it. Oil and gunk swell up the rubber and soften it. Then the load snaps off one of the plates that hold the mount to the bracket. That extra load can stress the other mounts also if one breaks. I ended up with my engine sitting on the cross brace and rack when both mounts failed on the motor. You want to fix any issues before that happens. A lot more work if the engine does that. I highly suggest Meryle mounts, you do not want any of those $6 ones. They are based on experience soft mushing crap. Some here on the BB are just as adamant about using Dealer mounts.

When you put your new mounts on, take some good 3M electrical tape and wrap the rubber surface with a couple of good overlapping layers. Oil will not be able to reach the rubber surface and that will extend their life. Did a motor mount over a year ago and it is still bone dry under the tape.

Good Luck,

Paul
