1991 240 cuts off at random when hot idling 200 1991

HELP!!!
My 91 240 has been cutting off at random when idling.It ONLY does it when it is warmed up.It also only does it at idle.I could be sitting in traffic,or at a light and it will just shut off on me.This has been happening since September.At first when it started doing it the car would simply start back up.Then it became harder and harder to get the car started after it cut off.Now if it cuts off on me i have to let it sit for several hours before it will start again!!
My battery failed on me during all of this and has been replaced.It has not cut off since then,because i only drive it to work and back.I am scared to drive my own car!!!!(you would be too if you had to push this tank uphill in rush hour traffic on more than one occasion)
