1993 945t - Stolen Catalytic Converter 900 1993

I lost my catalytic converter today while at church - God bless Detroit.

Question 1: If I follow up one wrong (theft) with another - welding in a test pipe section, do I run the risk of harm to the vehicle? We no longer have emissions testing in the state and therefore have only my conscience to answer to. Given that I'm not leaving the Motor City anytime soon, I'm hesitant to sink real money into an easily swiped part. I know that the vehicle only has a front O2 sensor, and therefore I should be okay as far as the computer is concerned.

Question 2: Anyone use the converter available from FCP? At $128.68 I can only imagine it's significantly less expensive than a dealer part.

Question 3: Any recommendations on what to look for as far as collateral damage nearby (example turbo mounts damaged due to recipricating saw vibration etc)?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew
