1984 240 wagon Strut Replacement Problems 200 1984

I replaced all the front suspension parts including ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushing, aftermarket strut mounts, and the strut inserts with Bilstein touring inserts. The passenger side strut had failed the driver side was weak. The passenger side strut was installed without a problem. The driver side nut on the strut can be tighten with 1 1/2 inch thread above the nut and still does not tighten properly. The car has 270,000 miles so I replaced the front springs and the problem continues. The passenger side strut has 5 threads above the nut. When you push the fender down on the drive side, the strut shaft extends like it need to be tighten more. The drive side is an inch lower than the passenger side. Any thoughts on what is causing the problem.
