Earlier this fall I was having a problem when I was driving where if I hit bumps in the road (not all bumps) my 91 240 wagon would sometimes loose power for a second and regain within a second. The engine light would come on during this moment and turn off immediately after the bumps and the engine would continue to run. It was obviously something loose, but I couldn't locate anything while the car was standing still, even when pushing up and down on each corner to try to simulate bumps. So I tried driving over bumps with each wheel to isolate the corner at least which seems to have narrowed it down to the front drivers side. Unfortunately I still cannot find the issue directly - I wiggle all wires/connections I can see while the engine is running with no luck in stalling.
Since I don't have the cash to pay a guy to find this issue, I was ignoring it since it wasn't that big of a deal I thought - I hadn't completely stalled out yet. Well now it seems to have gotten worse after driving over a very rough road this past weekend. Last night the car was stalling over the slightest of bumps and I had to stop, restart about 6-7 times just to get from the front of my house to the parking in back. At first it would restart right away, and then it started becoming longer and longer before it would start. The engine light was coming on and blinking on and off (not uniformly). Then finally it went off and the car started and drove fine into my parking spot. Anyways, now I'm afraid of driving it anywhere in fear of stalling in traffic (I live in downtown Toronto which tends to have heavy traffic).
What connections in the front drivers side would cause this? Coil? Distributor cap & rotor (changed in August), ignition wires (changed in August), connection to MAF sensor? I've wiggled all of these with no luck in getting it to stall. Are there any important grounds on this side that might cause this that I cannot see directly when looking under the hood? What about the battery cables? Would they cause this issue? I have no idea!
Thanks
Cton.
