Gas smell in cabin - follow up 200 1990

Thanks again to all who responded to my original post. As usual, the BB is a great resource for us Volvo owners and the 200 series forum posters are particularly helpful. :)

The gas smell in my trunk turned out to be from 2 sources:
1. Gas had pooled around the gas cap in the rubber drain. The drain tube to the ground had clogged.
2. The drain tube was displaced allowing what little gas that got through to drain into the rear well.

I haven't been filling up lately to avoid gas odors, so the real test will come when I do...

Never discovered how the passenger's front carpet became dampish with a gas smell. It is dry now, but still smells like gas. Going to shampoo and hope for the best!

Jim
