vacuum advance question and oil temp question 1800 1973

2 questions in 1 73ES 1836353 B20F
I have no oil temp reading. Guage or sender or wiring? Anything common. Where is the temp sender located? Is it the one on the oil pressure hose fitting at the block? I have oil pressure just no temp.

I find the car runs much better with the vacuum line from the distributor unplugged at the intake. Is this a sign of something else? Climate is getting colder too if that bears on it.

Slowly getting to know this car.
