Erratic idle, and stalling 900 1991

I wanted to post my troubles here and maybe get some other suggestions that may help. My 940 is a '91 Turbo model at 315,000 km. Here's what been happening. My check engine light will come on and the idle will bounce with an occasional surge when idling at a light. Diagnostic code would read 2-3-1, 2-3-2, car adjusting fuel mixture, rich or lean, at cruise and idle. Then at a later start up, check engine light will go out and the car would be normal again. Then yesterday on the highway I had a power loss as if stalling but after five seconds it came back. Check engine light came on and idle was erratic as before. Later in the day the engine light went out and the car was driving fine again. Same this morning until I stalled while proceeding from a stop. It restarted, engine light came on again. So whenever the engine light comes on I have power loss at speed or a stall at idle or when driving slowly. It's as if it pauses to do a fuel/air adjustment.
I have switched the air mass meter with a new one with no change. My RPM sensor will be changed as its rubber insulation has come off. I have a temporary cover on it now.
I thought this may be a relay problem but I don't think the idle would be affected. I will check sensor connections and ground leads. Also will consider air leaks.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Erich
