No, it grounds on the engine... 900 1993

The ground is the body NOT the engine,that is why the battery terminal connects to the body....the engine is of course earthed to the body....but the ignition power stage in turn is earthed to the fender( body ) otherwise no go!....The earth wire you speak of is just probably an extra safeguard because of the loose bolts syndrome?......
