Latest in my saga to get my 745gl running right (reliably). help

I have not driven it in a couple weeks. Started it today and it ran rough like higher than normal RPM 9for a bit) and shifter/ steering wheel jumping around due to the engine roughness. Just sitting in the driveway.

Eventually after running a few minutes in place it smoothed out and I thought I would take it out for spin.

while I was out and tooling around the neighborhood at lot of white exhaust smoke and strange smell. I could not see anything out the ordinary but I have an untrained eye. Any tips or suggestions?
