Trip mileage on 88 765 700 1988

My 765 has been parked in Western Kentucky since my father-in-law passed away several weeks ago. We went back up to retrieve my car and to bring his 93 Buick LaSabre back to Charlotte. The weather was bad for most of the trip so I checked the mileage on the loaded wagon for the run down to Knoxville, then again on the slower run through the mountains. For the first part of the trip I drove 75 to 80 mph with my wife driving the Buick behind me. The Volvo made 22.5 mpg and the Buick did 28 mpg. At least one third of that was with the OD off pulling the hills. I checked again in Asheville, NC after running through heavy rain and steep grades for 200 miles, (The Buick did not need gas!) and found that driving without the OD at 50 to 60mph increased the mileage to 23.5.

That is an N/A B230F from an 86 244 running with the unmodified LH 2.2 turbo fuel system. (The Buick is running the 3800 V-6 and makes about the same HP as the 16valve B234)

Regards,
