Hello All, I have an issue, one of very few, with my 960, great car for 243,000 miles on the clock. This past weekend i get in the car, warm it up as usual and tried to go. The car shifted into reverse then into forward but i noticed that when i accelerated, the car had no power and the RPMs went to about 3500 and held there for a long while before the tranny up-shifted. It was cold that morning so i thought it might be the cold until i stopped at stop sign about 2 miles down the road. As I accelerated, there was a loud whining noise coming from where the tranny is and the car just bearly inched forward and at the same time I got the "flashing orange arrow of worry". I was able to turn around and go home. As I was driving back, same thing with the high RPMs but after that the shifting 2-3 seemed fine but with the transmission in emergency mode, no lock-up, no power. I read the code which was 2-3-2 = VSS signal absent. I reset the code and move reverse and forward in the driveway about 30 feet but the tranny did the same thing with the wining noise and no power to speak of. I also felt a slight shudder/shake when moving forward. The flashing arrow did not reappear. I pulled into the garage and started developing an ulcer. I know there was another post on the forum from March ''05 describing EXACTLY the same thing (http://www.volvoforums.com/m_4538/tm.htm). Has anyone had this problem and solved it? any thoughts? Tranny-be-gone? bad valve? torque converter?
