Overheating - Alternator Issues 120-130

It's two for the price of one day...I'm trying to get some miles on the 122 before the snow flies for good and I'm still having issues with overheating. It hasn't gotten cooked or anything - I've got way too much time in this engine to do something that stupid. If I start the car up (timing set to 10 degrees BTDC) and run or drive it for a minute or two (around the block), the temp gauge goes over 200 degrees...I've hot wired up my e-fan (think the temp switch is dead) and that brings the temp down quickly. New gauge, new aluminum rad, new hoses, new water pumb (heck new everything).

I'm out of ideas for this one. I've got to dump the coolant to get the temp switch out of the block, but think I'll run it without a thermostat and with the cap off for a while and see if it is an air bubble.

Now on to the alternator. I've had it rebuilt as well and it checkes out fine (diodes and brushes were replaced with the bearings). New belt, tensioned properly. I've got an amp light on all the time. The previous engine had the generator. I've got an unknown voltage regulator that I've wired in as per the manual. Everything has a good, tested ground. Is it likely to be the regulator? It's a SEV Marshal unit. How do I test the regulator (the diagram in the green book is not helping).
