OD prep questions 120-130

Danny,

Clarification: There are D's and J's that use no relay. There are D's and J's that use relays. And the relays used can be different in function.

All relays are used to control high power with a lower power control circuit or add other control functionality that is not possible with direct wiring.

You stated:

"(He doesn't want the "drops out of OD when downshifting out of 4th" option.)"

It is my hope that there is just a miscommunication of what is actually wanted. As stated, the OD is wanted on in all gears at all times when the dash light is lit is the only interpretation.

I highly recommend that the OD be turned off automatically when not in 4th gear.

If the OD is left on and the vehicle is driven in reverse, there will be much damage internal to the OD, which will require an initial outlay of $460 for one part that will be damaged. Add more $$ since once that one part goes, there is collateral damage that can mount up fast. Or find a renewable supply of used OD's to replace those that will be damaged on a regular bases.

And I have profitted handsomely from those who who have sworn on their wallets that they "will not forget and turn off the OD before reversing".

If you are helping him as a friend, talk him out of keeping the OD engaged at all times.

If you are doing it for money, be prepared to pay in bad recommedations and other probable negative ramifications.

I am so sure the want of an always on OD is so wrong that I will not tell you how to wire it and strongly suggest to others to not provide the information.

It is like telling someone to take an ax and swing it at their hand placed on a table. No matter how smart the person holding the ax, you telling them makes you as much at fault.
