91 244 5 speed 200

I have a 1990 240 that the engine over heated and blow the head gasket. The mechanic wants 1200.00 to repair the problem. I have done brakes, water pump and other repairs and I think I want to do this myself. The car has 250000 and runs strong. I did a head gasket on a Audi 100 when I was a kid and it worked out fine. Do I spend the big bucks for the OEM gasket kit? As by chance, I found a 240 1991 with a sun roof and a 5 speed with 195,000 miles for 850.00 with minor rust in one of the wheel wells, what are your thoughts on the 5 speed ( better gas mileage) I would love the sun roof and updated a/c
and better gas mileage and ABS. Look forward to your comments
